Merchant and checkout terms

Last updated October 2026 (template)

These terms apply when you use LayerHop to get paid: checkout sessions, hosted payment pages, payment links and buttons, embedded checkout, invoices, the merchant API and the dashboard (together, the "Merchant Services"). They add to the general Terms of use and the Acceptable use policy. By creating an API key, a product, a checkout session or an invoice you agree to them on behalf of yourself and the business you represent.

1. What LayerHop is, and isn't

LayerHop is a non-custodial software interface. It shows your customer a payment page, asks third-party routing protocols for a route that delivers at least the amount due to your address, and prepares a transaction that your customer signs in their own wallet.

  • LayerHop is not a bank, payment institution, money transmitter, exchange, escrow agent or payment processor, and does not act as your agent for receiving funds.
  • LayerHop never holds, controls or pools your funds or your customers' funds, and cannot move, freeze, reverse or recover them.
  • LayerHop is not a party to the sale between you and your customer.

2. Settlement to your own address

Payments settle on chain, directly to the payout address you configure, in the settlement token and on the settlement chain you choose. You alone control that address and its keys. Check it carefully: a payment sent to a wrong address you entered can't be recovered by LayerHop. Changes to your payout address apply only to sessions and invoices created after the change.

3. Your responsibilities as a merchant

  • Your products. You are solely responsible for what you sell: its description, delivery, quality, legality, warranties and customer support.
  • Refunds. LayerHop can't issue refunds. Any refund is a new transfer you make from your own wallet, under your own refund policy, which you must show to your customers.
  • Taxes. You are responsible for determining, collecting, reporting and paying any taxes on your sales, and for your own records. Amounts and dates on invoices and receipts are provided for convenience only.
  • KYC and AML. You are responsible for any customer identification, anti-money-laundering, record-keeping and reporting obligations that apply to your business in your jurisdiction, and for any licences or registrations your business needs.
  • Sanctions. You must comply with applicable sanctions and export laws (including those of the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United Nations) and must not use the Merchant Services to deal with sanctioned persons or jurisdictions.
  • Consumer law. You must give your customers the pre-contract information, cancellation rights and disclosures the law requires where they are.
  • Your credentials. Keep API keys, webhook secrets and dashboard access secure. You are responsible for everything done with them until you revoke them.

4. Fees

LayerHop's fee and any route provider fees are disclosed on every quote the payer sees before signing. Unless your agreement with LayerHop says otherwise, the fee is included in what the payer pays and is not deducted from the amount due. A direct transfer of the settlement token on the settlement chain carries no LayerHop fee. Network (gas) fees are paid by whoever sends the transaction. We may change fees for future quotes; changes never affect a quote already shown.

5. Verification of payments

A checkout session or invoice is marked paid only after LayerHop has checked the settlement chain: the delivering transaction succeeded, it transferred at least the amount due in the settlement token to your payout address, it was mined after the session was created, and it hasn't already paid another session.

  • If a payment completed but can't be verified automatically, the session goes to needs_review. Don't fulfil the order until it is paid; contact dev@layerhop.com with the session id and we'll review it with you.
  • A processing session is not final: a cross-chain route can still fail and be refunded by its provider to the payer.
  • Verification is a technical check of on-chain data. It is not a guarantee about the payer, the origin of their funds, or the lawfulness of the transaction.
  • Webhooks and emails are notifications only. Always confirm the status through the API or the dashboard before you release high-value goods.

6. Test mode

Test sessions and test invoices are simulated. They move no funds, carry no value, and must not be used to sell or deliver anything.

7. Disputes with customers

Disputes about orders, delivery, quality, refunds or chargeback-like claims are between you and your customer. Blockchain payments have no chargeback mechanism and LayerHop has no ability to reverse them. If a customer contacts us about your order, we may share your public contact details with them and forward their message to you.

8. Prohibited use

You may not use the Merchant Services for any business or activity listed in the Acceptable use policy, or in any way that breaks the law that applies to you or to your customers.

9. Suspension and termination

You can stop using the Merchant Services at any time by revoking your API keys and deleting your products. We may suspend or end your access to the API, the dashboard, hosted payment pages and invoices, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you are breaching these terms or the Acceptable use policy, if your use creates legal, security or reputational risk, or if the law or a lawful order requires it. Because LayerHop never holds your funds, suspension does not affect funds already settled to your address.

10. Disclaimers

The Merchant Services are provided "as is" and "as available". We don't warrant that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, available on every chain or with every token, or that any route or provider will be available at a given time. Third-party protocols, bridges, blockchains and wallets are outside our control and have their own terms and risks.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LayerHop and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, sales, data or goodwill, arising from the Merchant Services. Our total liability for any claim relating to them is limited to the LayerHop fees attributable to your payments in the three months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.

12. Indemnity

You will defend and indemnify LayerHop against claims, losses and costs arising from your products, your dealings with your customers, your breach of these terms or of law, and anyone using your credentials.

13. Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. We'll give reasonable notice of material changes through the dashboard or by email where we can. Continuing to use the Merchant Services after a change takes effect means you accept it.
